Foundations Recognize Metro Schools

Foundations for Great Schools, a coalition of five private Colorado foundations that includes The Piton Foundation, recently recognized and rewarded 29 public schools from five metro‐area districts for achieving outstanding success with their students. A total of $500,000 in grants were awarded to the schools in amounts ranging from $10,000 to $50,000, to be used toward fostering continued student success. Many of the schools cited plans to use their grant awards for investments in enrichment and after‐school programming, professional development, tutoring programs, and technology, among other identified needs. Award recipients were selected from a 12‐district Denver metro area based on a variety of factors, including academic performance and growth, high percentage of students qualifying for the Federal free and reduced lunch program, school leadership, culture, and instructional effectiveness. Elementary, middle, high school, public district, and public charter were all considered.
