Gary Community Investments Launches Partnership to Support 800 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps Members with COVID-19 Contact Tracing in Colorado

JUNE 2, 2020 - Today Gary Community Investments, which includes the Piton Foundation, announced the launch of a partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to supply more than 800 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members with laptops and internet access as they work with the State of Colorado to conduct COVID-19 contact tracing.

AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers will work closely with local public health agencies to conduct remote contact tracing designed to help Colorado safely reopen and get people back to work.

“We believe this partnership can make Colorado a national model for how the American spirit of service can help us build our way out of this crisis,” said Gary Community Investments CEO Mike Johnston. “We know the most important levers for containing the virus and preventing a future outbreak will be a strong coordinated strategy of testing and contact tracing. This partnership with the state of Colorado and the Corporation for National Community Service will help solve the state’s critical need for contact tracing and protect Coloradans as we reopen the economy.”

Gary Community Investments is committed to securing the technology and equipment needed to help AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members conduct their work remotely in a way that protects them as well as the privacy of those who have been exposed to the virus. The organization is committed to pooling its resources alongside other partners to support the state’s efforts to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19.

“I’m proud that with support from Gary Community Investments, national service has a great partner who is committed to providing the tools needed for our AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members to help Colorado respond to COVID-19,” said Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. “In moments of crisis, Americans have always come together to serve those who need help. United, there is no problem we can’t tackle.”

As recruitment for more AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers begins, Gary Community Investments stands ready to meet the technology and equipment needs of those who dedicate themselves to this important effort.
