Book Trust Receives Governor’s Service Award
On September 7, 2017, Governor John Hickenlooper presented Book Trust with the Governor’s Service Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization in recognition of its work to help elementary school children with little or no access to books fall in love with reading and become lifelong learners. This year, Book Trust provided nearly 500,000 books to 22,000 Colorado students.
The Governor’s Service Awards are presented annually in recognition and appreciation of individuals, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, SeniorCorps volunteers, and AmeriCorps members for their outstanding contributions to volunteerism and service throughout Colorado.
As CEO of Book Trust, Amy Friedman has led the growth of the nonprofit from seed stage to a $5+ million organization, a benchmark that less than three percent of nonprofits achieve. Under her dynamic leadership, has sharpened its its focus on evidence-based impact, diversified funding sources and improved fidelity to its model. As a result, Book Trust has evolved from an organization that was serving less than 20,000 children in right states to one that is impacting more than 50,000 children in 22 states.
